Abstract (Summary)
Objective: This research has as aim to verify if Brazilian professionals that workwith people whit Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or AuditoryProcessing Disorder (APD), may estabilish the differential diagnosis between thistwo diseases based on behavioral signs. Methods: Sample was composed by 42 professionals (physicians, audiologists, psychologists and educators). Ali of them were invented to answer an inventorywhit 58 behavioral signs of both diseases. They were asked to classify the signs in5 categorias: 1 (never), 2 (almost nevar), 3 (sometimes),4 (almost always) and 5(always).Results:After analyzing the answers presented by the professionals we found thatsome behavioral signs were more frequently cited than others. We could observethat the moda value for theses signs were not the sarna for both diseases. Wefound that for ADHD, the moda value for almost always and always happened for:difficulty playing quietly, distracted, disorganized, inattentive, hyperactive, fidge urestless, shifts from one uncompleted task to another, poor self-control, lackspersistence and hasty or impulsiva. For APD the moda value for: auditory dividedattention deficit, auditory selective attention deficit, difficulty following instructionsgiven orally, poor auditory association skills, difficulty hearing inbackground/ambient noise, auditory sustained attention deficit, difficultdiscriminating speech and reduced rate of auditory information processing. Conclusions:We concluded that based on behavioral signs it is not possible toget a differential diagnosis, but we could observethat professionals think that somebehavioral signs were more typical of ADHD and others were more typical for ADP
