Abstract (Summary)
The Relationship Between Preschoolers Academic Self-Esteem and the
Quality of their Child Care Center
Kara Lynn Bodnovich
The present study examined the relationship between preschoolers academic
self-esteem and the quality of their child care center. Data on the quality of the
child care environment from the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale
Revised (ECERS-R) was derived from nine preschool classrooms, and data on
academic self-esteem from the Behavioral Academic Self-Esteem (BASE) Rating
Scale was obtained from 110 preschool children. The total scores from each of
the measures were analyzed to find possible significance. Additionally,
correlations were performed on the subscales of both measures. It was evident
from present and prior research that there is a relationship between the BASE
subscale of social attraction and the ECERS-S subscales of interaction, parents
and staff and language-reasoning.
