The new possibilities computer games offer for learning
This study was concerned with investigating the potential computer games offer for learning. The main objectives included:
?To review and test a set of guidelines that are to be developed to help parents and teachers in choosing the most appropriate computer games for the children and;
?To review the potential value of the computer games to help In learning.
A review on literature was done to explore the market trend in this field and to provide theoretical framework in learning with computer games. This was to provide a clear rationale for developing the guidelines in choosing computer games for children. To critically evaluate the appropriateness of the guidelines, interviews were conducted with a parent and a teacher. Their comments and information provided were used to adjust and improve the guidelines.
The guidelines were regarded as a starting point to explore the potential of computer games in the learning context. It could be used as a springboard for extending the future development of the computer games as a learning tool.
Several factors were concluded at the end of this paper, which were critical to the success of the computer games use in the learning context. As we achieved in completing all the critical success factors for using computer games in school or at home, computer games would be the new possibilities in the new learning era.
