Abstract (Summary)
The appropriate destiny of the residues generated by the society has been one of thebiggest problems of the present time. The reuse of the rejects, through the recycling is aform of solving this proble m. One of the most problematic materials, but that can haveuse in paving for its great amount and volume, is the used or useless tire, once thismaterial has in its composition elements that can be useful in the improvement of theasphalt mixture, for instance: the rubber. This work presents the results of a study inlaboratory that had as objective the verifying of the possibility of using the tire trituratedrubber in asphalt mixtures at hot trough the ?dry process?, trying to analyze thealterations in the mechanical behavior of a conventional asphalt mixture when a part ofits aggregate is substituted by tire triturated rubber. A same granulometric distributionof aggregate and rubber was adopted, aggregate gradation ?C? of DNER, and startingfrom these four lines of asphalt concrete were executed, one of reference (withoutrubber) and three varying the rubber tenor, B1 (dosage with 1% of rubber), B2 (dosagewith 2% of rubber) and B3 (dosage with 3% of rubber), being denominated these linesof ?experimental dosages.? With the mixtures, rehearsals were accomplished to evaluatethe mechanical acting, indirect tensile strength, resilient modulus and life of fatigue.The obtained results show that the mixtures modified with rubber addition possesssmaller values of resilient modulus and indirect tensile strength, and a larger life offatigue for low tension levels when compared to the reference mixture. With the results,designed were simulated of two pavements for the DNER empirical method and of theresilience from COPPE/UFRJ, in which the degree of reliability of 99,9% was verifiedaccording to the method of Rosemblueth. The study showed, also, that for the coveringof a road with 1km of extension, with 7m of width and 5cm of covering with asphaltconcrete modified with rubber addition, by experimental mix B1, there would be 1540tires recycled, contributing this way to reduce the environmental problems caused bythe disposition of solid residues
