An internship with Clean Water Action

AN INTERNSHIP WITH CLEAN WATER ACTION By Preetha Ramaswamy This paper reports on a six month internship with a national environmental lobbying organization called Clean Water Action. The internship focused on the Get the Lead Out campaign in the District of Columbia which strived to make the local residents more aware of the high levels of lead found in the water at the country’s capital and its consequences. The core functions of the internship were making people more knowledgeable about parties responsible for making decisions related to the issue and getting citizens involved in the campaign through the spreading awareness through focus groups and creating innovative marketing strategies that would not just increase awareness but would also induce a sense of urgency in people so that environmental concerns would be made a priority in the political arena.
