An examination of psychosocial aspects of lung cancer patients

Abstract (Summary)
(Uncorrected OCR) AS ST ft ACT Numerous researches have pointed out that depression, significant loss, stressful life events and other psychological factors like use of repression and denial, abnormal release of emotion, diminished outlet for emotional discharge are related to the development of cancer. The present project attempts to study "the psychosocial aaprcts of the male lunft cancer patients in order to identify the relevant variable that are associated with cancer. Patients from the Cardiac Thoracic and Pulmonary TuborculosiB Units of n hospital w?re chosen for study. They were divided into luag cancer and n on-cancer groups as well as into old- and younger-agad RTOups. They wore given a number of tests which include:! the ?r.cnc'x. Personality Questionnaire, selected Scaler of the Minnesota Multiphasic l'rrr tonality Inventory, the Hostility and Direction of Hostility 'iu*jationnf\ir and the Social Readjustment Rating Scale. A brief survey on their way of emotional releaoe and en soirie relevant information was also done. tieciidtn were supportive of som'? of the hypothesis. It was found that the lttti/f cancer patients demonstrated differences, from the control groups on the hie (.'.<;.I1.0,. ) mq Depression scales, sia well as on suppression of emotions, Ago i;i found to hrive an interactien effect with the di&gnosir of cancer on &pjftdependent measures. The presence of p-ychoi-omatic diseases produces a confounding effect. The rosultn obtained were Qjcplained arvfl discusaad.
