Karriärvägar efter en examen i psykologi vid Gävle Högskola

Title: Careers after a psychology degree at University of Gävle The purpose of this study was to depict which career choices students made after their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from University of Gävle and which factors they were affected by in their choices of careers. The research result has been compared to earlier studies made in the USA which shows the career choices of American students with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology. Nine interviews were conducted and the data was analyzed by an inductive thematic analyzis. The research result revealed that the psychology students didn’t have any explicit goal with the studies before they began to study. By the informants in the study with a Bachelor’s degree is one today working as a handling officer at the Swedish Migration Board and another one has chosen to continue studying since this informant hasn´t got any job. Most informants with a Master’s degree today works or has the intention to work as a doctoral student. Most informants also attributed their present position on the labour market to chance, although a few attributed it to their individual career plans.
