Abstract (Summary)
The present research aims to study the amount of people with auditive, physical, visual mental and multiple disabilities in students at regular and special schools of Gerência de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia da região de Florianópolis/SC ?Education, Science and Technology Management in the region of Florianopolis/SC ? and establish possible relationships between the environment and such disabilities. The research was developed with data from a sample of 207 familiesfrom a group of 1704 families with kids that has the mentioned disabilities, according to Fundação Catarinense de Educação Especial - Catarinense Foundations of Special Education. From this data on, we identified that the auditive disability appears in 15% of the studied cases; 10% of physical disability; 29% of visual disability; 24% of mental disability and 22% of multiple disability. We have not identified the influence of environmental factors on the diseases. Therefore, 15 % of the visual disability cases are from Congenital Toxoplasmosis, identified as an environmental cause factor with incidence in Visual Disability in 100% of the cases of Congenital Toxoplasmosis observed in the sample. However the indicators registered at the official departments of public health are not enough to perceive environmental factors in the analyzed diseases. So, among the anomalies studied here, we identified that Toxoplasmosis is an environmental cause factor of Visual Disability
