Abstract (Summary)
The present thesis presents the creative process of the laboratory Scenic Ambient Sound, instructing exercises of vocal preparation and the creation of sound games for scenic sound composition. The orchestration of the actors voices, associated with the sounds from objects, were utilized in this creative process. The reflections presented in this work seek to identify the specificity of the actors´ vocal sound in scene, investigating the possibility of extracting and unfolding from these vocal sounds an abundance of diverse forms that can fill and define the scenic space. In the creative process described the notion of words as vehicles of singleideas is broken, favoring the discovery of other meanings through exploration of combinations of vocal parameters including timber, musicality, rhythm, melodic form, expressive force of individual phonemes, and the actor?s respiration. The voice on its own enchants, bringing sensations and images to the scenic ambient. The construction of this thesis on Scenic Ambient Sound had as its basis the testimonies of the actor participants collected throughout the laboratory and added to the analysis of videos recorded during the encounters, with theoretic material gleaned from the areas of phonology, theater and music for reflection of the practice as it was developed. In relation to the vocal preparation of theactor, the integration of body with voice and the parameters of the voice, notions from the area of phonology were applied by observation of each actor, for the generation of soundsnecessary for the composition of Ambient Sound. The meaning or sense of sounds independent of verbal context was explored through the stimulation of synaesthetic perception following studies from the area of music. Material from the scenic arts and contemporary theater contributed to the development of the perception of the necessity of the voice filling the scenic space, and of the potential of enchantment of the voice, the driving theme of thisresearch.
