Abstract (Summary)
Lean Manufacturing is a systematic approach to identifying and eliminating waste through continuous improvement by flowing the product at the demand of the customer. This Work presents the Lean Manufacturing tools and stock management techniques utilized in a machining process of the automotive industry and it is aimed to evaluate the impact of the Lean practices and principles implementation. It serves to demonstrate that a successful implementation requires the total support and involvement of the company management team. The waste elimination campaigns are essential to motivate all employees, mainly those directly involved in the process. This study places emphasis on the benefits provided to the employees regarding the acquired knowledge on new methods and practices as well as to the company, favored with the labor force professional development and the enhanced financial performance achieved with the amazing reduction of waste and improvement in product quality (essential for survival in the actual business environment).Productivity improvements have already been detected in the introductory stage of the Lean phases in "Fiat Powertrain Technologies", a traditional automotive manufacturer that is prepared to face new challenges as the "WCM" (World Class Manufacturing) which includes the Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
