Avaliação de fontes de informação na web: um estudo focado na Wikipédia

Abstract (Summary)
The web evolution has brought the creation of more and more interactive spaces, allowing the users to modify the existent content and create new hypertextual enviroments; appearing open systems in agreement with the concept of the web 2.0 such as the wiki systems. Among the existent wiki tools the Wikipedia, which is a virtual encyclopedia, is a very popular one that gathers thousands of users who make the collaborative hypertextual building of texts in all areas of the knowledge. The central premise of this dissertation is that, once the Internet is a powerful technological instrument for the spread and the acess to the information, initiatives as the development of information sources based on the use the use of wiki systems present limitless capacity of collaborative growth. To measure its quality as information source the on-line encyclopedia Wikipedia is evaluated based of the criteria adopted in his research in three dimensions: content, usability and functionality. Three data collection forms were used as analysis tool, being attributed concepts to each dimension in order to evaluate its approval degree. The results point the encyclopedia#s strong and weak points. The low grades were attributed to the content presentation form, content updating and maintenance and a balance in the grades regarding to the usability and functionality.
