Avaliação da imunidade protetora de uma cepa atenuada de Eimeria acervulina, em galinhas (Gallus gallus), apos desafios com as cepas parentais homologa e duas heterologas

Abstract (Summary)
Evaluation of protective immunity produced by immunization of chickens (Gallus gallus) with the attenuated tine "Cu" of Eimeria acervulina after challenge with its homologous and two heterologous strains "PePa" e "I" was performed. Seven day old White Leghorn SPP (Specific Pathogen Pree) chickens were used for experiments. Each bird received a dose of lxl03 attenuated "Cu" tine oocysts of Eimeria acervulina on the 7th day and another dose in the 14th day of age. The birds were chalIenged with 2xl05 oocysts of "Cu", "PePa " and " I " parent strains of E. acervulina on the 21st day - old. The criteria used to evaluate protective immunity were: weight gain, lesion score of duodenum and upper small intestine and oocysts production per bird. The immunization with precocious tine of E. acervulina showed a high protection of chickens after challenge with parent strains "Cu" (96%) and "PePa" (over 86%) for weight gain and oocysts production. The immunity was lower (75%) when birds were challenged with the "I" parent strain. Total protection against intestinal lesions was obtained in all the immunization experiments. The present results suggest the presence of antigenic variation in E. acervulina between the strains used in the experiments. The attenuated "Cu" tine of Eimeria acervulina seems suitable for its use as tive vaccine in Brazil
