Using web-based activities in chemistry lessons
In recent years, the Hong Kong SAR government has been strongly promoting the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in education. This study attempted to investigate the use of ICT, especially on the use of web-based activities, in the study of chemistry. In certificate level chemistry, the topic of bonding theories is quite confusing. Students would easily get various misconceptions. Form 4 chemistry classes were introduced to the WebQuest activity focusing on covalent bonding. WebQuest is a process of learning that is supported by numerous Internet resources in addition to other resources inside and outside the classroom. In the activity, students were requested to complete the task specified by the WebQuest with the Internet resources provided. The students showed appreciation of the WebQuest activity and a general positive attitude toward the activity used. Factors affecting the success of applying the WebQuest activity were discussed.
