Transverse Vibrations of Multi-Walled Nanotubes with Visco-Elastic Layers
Abstract (Summary)
This paper presents a model of multi-walled carbon nanotubes in which adjacent
tubes are connected by a viscoelastic layer between to model inter-atomic van der Waals forces as well as inherent damping within the material. The model constructed would be of assistance to researchers in developing an experimentally determined value for the damping of multi-walled nanotubes.
The free response is obtained using state-space modeling. The forced response is
then obtained using modal analysis. The damping ratios for free vibrations are examined as well as three types of forced vibrations. The frequency response is obtained for harmonic excitations.
