Teachers' perspectives on the use of intranet as a learning platform in Hong Kong secondary schools
In recent years, Intranet becomes a widespread tool for upgrading the productivity of an organization. The application of Intranet as an e-learning platform in the higher education institutes is increasing enormously as well recently. In Hong Kong, most of the secondary schools have set up an Intranet system. However, the effectiveness of using these systems in teaching and learning has not been specifically studied. In this study, the present situations of the usage of school Intranet system and the factors affecting the effectiveness in teaching and learning are investigated. As an exploratory study, four cases of local secondary schools were investigated. Utilization data and interview responses were analyzed based on a Factor Framework. The analysis shows that the systems in most local schools are under-utilized. It is also found that ?eacher attitude?could be the most determining factor in the extent and the effectiveness of the application of Intranet in teaching and learning. In view of the finding, other teachers?perspectives are also discussed. Finally, recommendations on improvements and further studies are made in the paper.
