Structural studies of homologous recombination in bacteria
Abstract (Summary)
RecA is a central player in homologous recombination, an essential DNA repair
pathway. It catalyzes the key steps of homology search, strand exchange and branch
migration in the process. It also regulates the SOS response. The structures of
uncomplexed E. coli RecA and its complex with ADP were solved 15 years ago. In both
structures, RecA is packed in a right-handed helical filament with a pitch of 82.7Å. In
