Strategic planning in education a case study of the Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin Area Unified Scool District /
Abstract (Summary)
Under the direction of a new Superintendent, the Chippewa Falls Area Unified
School District (CFAUSD) began a strategic planning process in September, 2004.
Through the review of literature, it is suggested that one reason strategic planning is
important in an educational setting is to assist the organization in establishing and
monitoring its goals. Without attainable goals in place, the organization does not know
what it is supposed to do or how to achieve future successes. This case study provides a
detailed examination and evaluation of the goals of the CFAUSD, and provides insight
into the direction in which the district should continue.
The researcher's goals of this case study are to determine the commitment to the
strategicplanning process that the CFAUSD has made, recognize the goals of the district,
identify barriers to the strategic planning process, and make recommendations that
provide support to the process. The researcher will conduct a survey during this case
study to assess the progress that has been made during the first two years of the strategic
planning process in the CFAUSD. Information collected from the survey will help the
researcher in identifyingbarriers and making recommendations to assist in overcoming
identified barriers. Through this process the researcher hopes to provide the CFAUSD
with information to support continued success and to provide other school districts with a
successful model of strategic planning in education.
