ROUGH-HEWN a memoir
Abstract (Summary)
This thesis is a work of nonfiction. The names of pieces of the female body are used as titles throughout the text and serve as places to begin remembering a female life. The work focuses on the female body and explores definitions and labels attached to specific characters. The work examines how labels such as anorexic, bulimic, suicidal, depressed, and abused limit women. The author questions whether or not she can claim the entire woman, with her “flaws”, labels, and body, as an “acceptable” woman.
