O USO DA PALAVRA PROSÓDICA POR FALANTES DO PORTUGUÊSBRASILEIRO: IMPLICAÇÕES NA ORTOGRAFIA DE PALAVRAS PREFIXADAS
Abstract (Summary)
In an interface between Phonology and Morphology, the present research focused onthe relationship between the phonological and the morphological word, in order to analyze theuse of the hyphen in written productions of native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese.Based on presumptions of Prosodic Phonology (NESPOR & VOGEL, 1986) andLexical Phonology (KIPARSKY, 1985), the study analyzed orthographic errors related to theuse of the hyphen in prefixed words. Texts used for analysis were University admission testsand final year High School tests. Two classifications were considered for data analysis: a)hyphenated words, according to Traditional Grammar, but written without a hyphen; b) wordswithout a hyphen, according to Traditional Grammar, but used with a hyphen. According tothe classification applied, data were analyzed based on prefix categories proposed bySchwindt (2000), identifying Authentic and Compositional Prefixes. Based on Prosodic andLexical Phonology, the results were analyzed following motivation and criteria by the authorsof the texts to apply or not the use of a hyphen in prefixed words. The present researchconcludes that the use of prosodic words by native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese has directimplication on the orthography of prefixed words.
