Nya lösningar på gamla ideer : Examensarbete i samarbete med Ikea

by Björk, Erik

Abstract (Summary)
This report describes the degree project called Giving old ideas new solutions in collaboration with IKEA carried out by Erik Björk student at the furniture design department at Carl Malmsten Centre for Wood Technology & Design at Linköping University. The Examination project was realized in collaboration with IKEA of Sweden. The aim with the design project was to design four products on the basis of the capacity of seven different furniture factories in Poland. The factories all work with massive wood as raw material. With that as a starting point my aim has been to design products that take care of the uniqueness of the material and therefore make it impossible to duplicate in another material. Partly the aim has been to give the products originality and personality by investigating the Scandinavian identity and my own origin. Each product shall have a story to tell. It has been a challenge to design four products in ten weeks. There were times where I felt that one product had been enough but after finishing the project I am happy it was four. This has made it possible for ideas to grow in the back of my head for a while without slowing down the project in general. The number of products has been of crucial importance for the project making it possible to work active with one product and rest the others. The final result of the project consists of four prototypes to be evaluated and possibly developed for production. vii viii Förord Stort Tack Lars Engman för att du visade intresse när jag ringde till dig.
