MARIA DA CUNHA E VERA KARAM: DIÁLOGO DE UM SÉCULO?
Abstract (Summary)
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the authorship history of two dramatists ? Maria da Cunha (1862?1917) and Vera Karam (1959?2002), who by means of their dramatic creations, Edemeia ou O casamento infeliz and O casal ou Por que você não disse que me amava? free their voices and expose the feminine in the architecture of their characters. Based on theoretical principles which mix distinctive concepts of dramaturgy, narrative categories and Feminist Literary Criticism I observe to what extent insanity in Cunha and irony in Karam interfere on the protagonists? performance and determines gender relations. Through the lens of female?s sight, both writers discuss universal subjects such as incompleteness, incommunicability and solitude in marriage. Their literature proves that the century which separates them does not obstruct their communication; on the contrary, it forms a bridge that allows them to share deep feelings and needs intensely. The exposure of the literary work of these dramatists favours the fulfillment of gaps noticed in some Brazilian literature histories.
