MP3 : hur låter det?
Abstract (Summary)
Mp3 is a compressionformat that gets more users. More and more downloads
music from the Internet and the format is also used in presentations and i many
other contexts. In our essay we have examined if people experience a difference
between the original and the compression. We have also examined if there are
divergence between speech and different categories of music and if the system on
which the sound is played has importance. To get the answers for this we have
carried out a experiment where thirty participants, in two different categories,
Students and Soundproffessionals, listen to original and compressed sound in three
different categories to see if they experience any divergence. Soundfiles in the
categories speech, popular music and classical music were played on two different
soundsystems to examine the importance of the system. The result of the
experiment shows that mp3-compression works well in many ways. The
experiment showed that speech worked well on both systems when few of the
participants did not experience that the original sounded better. The classical music
showed similar result with the exception of 96 kbps compression on the more
advanced speakers where a vast majority thought that the original sounded better.
Popular music was the category that the participants felt the original sounded better
to the highest degree, but even there it works well at some compressions.
Ljudfiler i
komprimeringsgrader
