L'influence? de l'Occupation allemande sur la litte?rature, le the?a?tre et le cine?ma franc?ais
Abstract (Summary)
This thesis examines the relationship between the propaganda of the Nazis and the
civilian works of literature, theater and film produced during the German Occupation of
France. It hopes to show how the German occupants modified the arts in France to
further their own goals and to examine the effects of such changes. It attempts to explain
the methods used to persuade or force collaboration on the part of the French intellectual
as well as the reasons why some collaborated and others resisted. .Finally, it studies the
link between the political ideas expressed in a particular work and their effect on the
public at large. Were the arts in France truly changed by the German Occupation, or
were these modifications superficial and ephemeral?
