Abstract (Summary)
Abstract
This thesis has been carried out at Saab Training Systems AB in Huskvarna. Saab
Training Systems develops manufactures and sell complete military training concept.
The purpose of this report has been to reduce the lead-time, when a short delivery
time has becoming an important competitive strength. The assignment involved a
survey of the present spare part and repair flow, identifies problems and finds
improvement proposals. Further we have studied the spare part inventory levels and
its tied capital.
The project was performed by interviews with concerned personnel, observations,
surveys and studies of statistics. We have also worked with Supply Chain Operations
Reference Model which is an open reference model, whit it’s help you can identify,
change and optimize your organization.
Saab Training Systems objective is that the lead time for the spare part and repair flow
should be 14 days but in the present the case is otherwise. The lead times are today
much longer but the company doesn’t know how long.
These long lead times mainly depends on that it occurs a lot of passive time in the
spare part and repair flow. This time comes up while waiting at transport but also as a
consequence of that the company at the moment has a lot to do.
To achieve a reduction of the lead-time Saab Training Systems ought to reduce the
passive time.
Saab Training Systems should reduce their inventory level to liberate tied capital. In
this way they will reduce the risk that the products lose value.
