La pintura y los pintores valencianos durante la guerra de la independencia y el reinado de Fernando VII (1808-1833)

ABSTRACT The study carried out in the thesis, The painting and the valencian painters during the War of the Independence and the reign of Fernando VII (1808-1833), hopes to introduce valencian art from the first third of the XIX century, concretely of the period lived during the French occupation and the absolutist reign of Fernando VII, analyzing the oils works, fresh and drawings carried out by the artists that worked during that period with the purpose of defining the historical and artistic profile of the valencian painting of that convulsed period. This work presents a general vision of the role exercised for as well the Academies of fine arts in the artistic production, to the service of the powers of the ancien régime, the Monarchy and the Church, as the paper exercised by the valencian painters of Camera present in the Real House, and in charge of to create and to diffuse the king's image. Also, the implication of the artists has been analyzed in those political events of the moment, especially the role exercised during the liberal revolutions of 1808 and 1820, and in those rising reactionary reinstatements of Fernando VII, in 1814 and 1823. For it not alone it has been kept in mind the carried out painting wing service of the monarchy, but also the religious painting, the one ephemeral art, and the exhibitions of fine valencian arts, together to the analysis of the paper exercised by the periodic publications, printing press and cultural magazines in the artistic diffusion and in the mentalities control. Lastly, an extensive biographical and artistic study has been carried out of the valencian painting and painters, with the purpose of offering the most complete vision possible of this historical moment.
