Abstract (Summary)
The reason we conducted this study is that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women, and thanks to better methods to diagnose and treat the disease, mortality in breast cancer has decreased, which results in an increasingly amount of survivors. The aim of this study was to describe how women, after being treated, experience the impact of breast cancer on physical health, psychological well-being and social life. The method used was a qualitative literature review. Our study resulted in three main themes and eleven subthemes. Our result showed that the women experience a lack of information from health care providers within all of our three main themes. Besides, the result showed that women experience physical symptoms which often are being neglected by health care providers. There are also changes in lifestyle and sexual functioning. Also, the result showed that women experience an altered body image, an uncertainty about the future and several different fears. They get new priorities and values in life as well. Furthermore, our result showed that women experience a closer relationship with the family than before the diagnosis and that their friends avoid them. Besides, there are changes in their careers.
