INNOVATIVE SUBSURFACE REMEDIATION RESEARCH: AN INTERNSHIP AT THE SAVANNAH RIVER SITE, AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA
Abstract (Summary)
A professional internship was completed at the Savannah River Site, a part of the United States Department of Energy complex located east of the Savannah River in South Carolina. The internship comprised three main projects: construction of a photovoltaic-powered data acquisition system to monitor a new passive remediation technology, construction of a calibration cell for mass-flow meters and production of a movie animating TCE and PCE degradation at the Mixed Chemical Basin on site. Aside from the experience attained from the three main projects, the internship provided direct observation of the planning and implementation of innovative remediation and characterization strategies.
