The purpose of this study was to determine the proper means of implementing the
use of a classroom management system at River Falls High School for use by students,
parents, and guardians with access via the internet. The objectives of this field study are
to determine what information is needed for the parents to use the system, how the
information should be provided, to provide the information on the use of the system to
the parents, and finally to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of the system by the
parents. This study was conducted by mailing questionnaires to parents of the freshmen
class of River Falls High School for the 2004-2005 school year and by surveying the
teachers of River Falls High School for the same school year. The populations were given
various information that could be provided over the internet by the classroom
management system and were asked to rate them as to their importance in keeping
updated with the student's school activities. They were also asked questions pertaining to
the implementation of the system. The anonymous responses were mailed back in a
stamped, self-addressed envelope by the parents and were returned to the researcher's
mailbox at the school by the teachers. The results revealed that both the parents and the
teachers felt it was important to provide information on student's progress over the
internet. It also revealed that the parents felt comfortable and preferred a direction sheet
as a way to learn how to use the system. Finally, the evaluation of the process revealed
that the parents were mostly satisfied or very satisfied with the implementation of the
program.
