The Federal Goal of Making All Healthcare Records Electronic By 2014: Differing Viewpoints.
Abstract (Summary)
In 2004 President George Bush requested that all patient medical records be in electronic format by 2014. This paper analyzes progress in the United States towards the creation of a National Health Information Network to link all aspects of the American healthcare system into one access point where patient’s healthcare records can be stored and accessed electronically. It examines the viewpoints of the government, American citizens, software companies, and healthcare professionals and institutions, and attempts to present the current barriers to accomplishing this mission.It concludes the goal is possible and progress is well underway.
