Estudo experimental de sistemas de reforço ao cisalhamento em vigas de concreto armado utilizando-se polímetro reforçado com fibras de carbono (PRFC)

Abstract (Summary)
The present work studied the behavior of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) composite used as strengthening and rehabilitating structural material in reinforced concrete (RC) beams submitted to shear stress. The current state of the knowledge related to this issue is presented, and different conceptual and design models for shear strengthening of RC beams with CFRP systems are also introduced. Four strengthening systems were studied in this research: laminated plates; L shaped plates; laminate plates embedded into the concrete; and strips of CFRP sheets. In order to supply stronger qualitative and quantitative arguments, and to build up potential knowledge on different types of CFRP systems for shear strengthening of RC beams, identical prototypes were used. The study was carried out in conventional RC beams, which were shear strengthened with CFRP plates. Different external bonding positions of the strengthening plates, either on or inside the internal steel stirrups were analyzed; an aspect that had not been mentioned in the specific literature before. The experimental program was composed of prototypes assembled into five series: 1) RC beams strengthened with laminated plates embedded into slits cut on the beam#s lateral concrete surface, either longitudinally or transversally; 2) Laminated plates embedded into slits cut on the concrete surface, and an additional laminated plate bonded along the lower side of the beams. 3) Laminated plates externally bonded on the side of the beam#s concrete surface, between or on the steel stirrups. 4) L shaped plates bonded on the concrete surface on three sides of the beams, in a similar fashion to the previous series. 5) Strips of CFRP sheets placed at 900 and 450. The results obtained in the tests are interpreted, discussed and evaluated. These results indicate that the techniques used in this study, to shear strengthen RC beams with CFRP, are viable. They also showed that CFRP laminated plates embedded into slits cut on the beam#s lateral surface (1) was the most effective technique.
