Estudo do pré-tratamento mecânico-biológico de resíduos sólidos urbanos em escala real de operação

Abstract (Summary)
The study of mechanical-biological pre-treatment process of municipal solid waste in aerated piles, in real scale implanted and operated, in Blumenau City, SC, is the mean focus of this work. The adopted pre-treatment method consists in the formation of an aerated piles, mounted on wooden pallets, and covered with splinters of wood forming a biofilter. The related study was realized from the supervision in the piles, with differents aeration systems. Temperature measurements were realized in different places of the piles, physical-chemical analyses of leachate and organic matter, and the accompaniment of the physical characteristics of them. The concentrations of BOD and COD of leachate produced by piles were elevated in the beginning of the process. After a treatment time that oscillated between 5 to 10 months, it was checked that under differents conditions of aeration there was a percentual reduction of composted organic matter from about 85 to 90%. The intensity of aeration influenced in the time of biochemical degradation of this organic matter.
