Estudo da viabilidade da reutilização de resíduo de areia verde de fundição em argamassa colante: enfoque ambiental

Abstract (Summary)
This research studied the possibility of recycling solid wastes, green foundry sand incorporated into external binding mortar as a base for ceramic material, focusing on environmental aspects. To do so, physical and chemical tests were made on green foundry sand and the mortar incorporating the waste. Physical tests made on the green sand included particle-size analysis, humidity level, pulverulent material, fire loss, swelling, absorption, specific mass and unit mass. Chemical tests included rough mass, solubilization and leaching.Furthermore, image analysis was made through stereoscope and scanning electronic microscopy of green sand. These practices were intended to respond to the constitution andproperties of the green foundry sand, which have consequences on the properties and characteristics of the final product, the external binding mortar. With these results, sample assays incorporating green sand at 25, 50, 75 and 100% was made substituting the sand, besides the standard mortar made without incorporating the green sand. Two preliminary tests were made with these samples, one for mechanical resistance to compression and one for resistance to adherence. The results obtained from these practices determined the limit of incorporating green sand into the mortar to be 50% substitution of the sand by the green sand,with the objective of performing tests that would determine the mortar behavior in regard to environmental aspects. Following this, the practice of absorption through immersion and capillarity, emptiness rates and specific mass, leaching by NBR-10005 (Brazilian Standard) and NEN-7345 (Dutch Standard) and an analysis of mortar morphology by stereoscope and scanning electronic microscope were also made. The results demonstrated that as the quantityof green sand incorporated at the mortar increases, resistance to compression and to adherence decreases considerably. It was also observed that as the amount of green sand incorporated into the mortar increases, absorption and the rate of mortar emptying increases as well. Also,analyses of images were made by stereoscope and scanning electronic microscopy. In relation to the results of mortar leaching, it was proven that according to the NBR 10005 and to the NEN 7345, the values of leaching of the aliped elements did not surpass the specified limits
