En studie om kommunal vårdpersonals kunskaper om och attityder till MRSA och dess hygienrutiner

Abstract (Summary)
The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge of and attitudes towards MRSA and its hygiene routines among the care staff in municipal nursing homes. The study had a describing and comparing design. Two municipal nursing homes were selected through a convenience sampling, one in Gästrikland and one in Hälsingland. A survey was handed out to the care staff (n= 109) whence 88 were submitted. The survey contained 13 statements and 13 questions regarding the staffs’ knowledge of and attitudes towards MRSA and its hygiene routines. The result showed that the staff that had cared for MRSA patient had significantly better knowledge regarding MRSA and its hygiene routines than those who had not cared for patient with MRSA. Despite significant differences, a major lack of knowledge was found. No significant relation was found between care staff with different amount of work experience and knowledge regarding MRSA and its hygiene routines. The care staff stated that their knowledge was insufficient, and emphasized the importance of following the hygiene routines. The majority of the staff was aware of the fact that guidelines were available at the workplace. In summary the result showed that there was a potential risk that the staff is transmitting the bacteria.
