Diffraction-based models for iridescent colors in computer-generated imagery
Abstract (Summary)
This work presents shading models for the iridescent colors produced by diffraction gratings suitable for computer graphics image generation. Models are presented that are based on one, two, and three dimensional diffraction. Shading algorithms based on these models can be directly incorporated into standard shading routines. These models allow for the computer generation of realistic coloration of surfaces such as CD-ROMs and opals in computer generated imagery. Examples of such surface textures are given.
