Der Parzival-Prolog als literarische Ausnahme
Abstract (Summary)
The purpose of this thesis is to compare and contrast the prologue of Parzival by
Wolfram von Eschenbach to the traditional model of a medieval prologue. An explanation of the
structure and functions of a prologue and the nature of its language reveals how influential and
important the prologue is for the entire work. It should not only introduce the story but also help
the audience to understand and interpret it. By carefully analysing content, structure, language,
problems and questionability, it becomes evident that the Parzival-prologue fails to fullfill its
traditional duties. Instead of providing the audience with guidance and clarification the
prologue, namely Wolfram, leaves them utterly confused.
