Abstract (Summary)
SUMMARY: "Primary teachers beliefs and perfomances when correcting written texts in Catalan." TEXT: The doctoral thesis studies teachers beliefs and performaces when correcting written texts in their Catalan language classes.The researcher states correcting written texts in the classrooms still entails an enormous amount of work on teachers, which in turn is to be performed with little guiding principles, despite ongoing conjoined efforts in innovation from both government and language teachers alike. Bibliografical references revolve around three main topics which are considered basic for this study: teaching and learning text composition (models of written text composition processes, pedagogic principles to teach writing, writing texts and error correction), the official curriculum and current regulations. The study is carried out following qualitative methodology for it allows different ways of data collection. Data have been gathered both through teacher interviews and classroom observation. The informants are three teachers who belong to state Primary schools in the sorroundings of Barcelona. They all have similar ages and teaching experiences. Interviews have been carried out following qualitative methodology in order study topic analysis, discourse analysis and analysis of text practice. It is when obtaining these data that traces of teachers beliefs, as far as written text correction is concerned, are found. The study concludes that, despite the initial and ongoing training teachers have access to, theres a gap to be filled in the area of text correction. This creates uneasiness amongst teachers who believe they are not doing their best. Teaching practices do not always follow curriculum proposals and no evident gains seem to develop from their efforts. Specialised training as well as time for teachers to reflect on their daily practices are needed in order to improve classroom writing correction.
