Abstract (Summary)
Summary: With aggressive technology scaling, leakage power is fast becoming a significant component of the total power consumption in high-performance circuits. In this thesis, we evaluate the effect of scaling, particularly on dynamic circuits and propose improved domino designs to alleviate the charge-sharing problem and maintain the domino design in minimum leakage state. Through detailed analysis of charge-sharing, we propose a modified domino design called the Isolated Dynamic Node, which shows better noise immunity than the standard domino logic circuits. The Isolated Dynamic Node technique mitigates the effect of charge-sharing at the dynamic node by creating a pseudo-dynamic node whcih shields the dynamic node. We validate this design through simulation results. Also, we present an analysis of the node voltage dependence of leakage currents in dynamic designs.
