Abstract (Summary)
This dissertation is a requirement for the conclusion of the Masters course in SocialPolitics of Universidade Católica de Pelotas and is bonded to the Research Line: SocialPolitics, Participative Processes and Social Work. The work aims to analyse the changes thathappen in the lives of families who take part in the Bolsa Família Aid Program in themunicipality of Santa Vitória do Palmar-RS, thus we intended through interviews, to which itwas applied the technique of Content Analysis, point out the main alterations in the lives ofthe beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família Aid Program in what concerns the relation of thefamilies with school; evidence the permanence and productivity of children and adolescents inschool and identify the view and possible actions of the teachers in relation to the studentswho belong to families that receive Bolsa Família aid. The work is based on densebibliographic review in which we present the thought currents of the Minimum IncomeGarantee Programs, the debate concerning Citizenship, the dichotomy Right vs Aid, as well asissues referring to work and Social Politics. Besides that, this dissertation presents the resultsof a field work carried out in September 2007 in two poor neighbourhoods, of the mentionedmunicipality, called Vila Jacinto and Vila Nova. Twenty beneficiaries were interviewed,being ten from each neighbourhood, as well as a group of six teachers who deal with familiesfrom both neighbourhoods. With the beneficiaries the objective of the interview was to drawther opinions concerning the BFAP, and above all, investigate the changes in their relationswith school, as well as the alterations in their quality of life. The interview with teachersaimed to know, principally, if there was change in the behaviour and/or in the quality of theschool activities practised by students who belong to families that started to receive the BolsaFamília Aid, and also, in the relation of those families with school, as well as the opinion ofteachers about the program
