At Any Given Time, In The Skull

by Schmidlin, Tom

Abstract (Summary)
With this collection of poems, I sent myself on a journey through my own imagination, with an ultimate goal of a sense of serious play. Because I believe limitations to be the key to creativity, I imposed various kinds of limitations on poems as I wrote them, some as rigid as a traditional form, some as relaxed as a lack of punctuation, capitalization, line breaks, etc. I wanted to explore the gaps created between the lines of a poem, between the poem and its reader, and between the writer and his or her subconscious, as well as indulge whatever flight of fancy suited me at the time of writing. I began locally, with Town and Country, then moved out, Scouting Around, spent time Mingling with those I met, and finally arrived in La La Land. My journey is not an altogether linear one, as I believe all of these places can be visited at any given time, in the skull.
