Arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases as cause retirement concession for disability in Brazil
Abstract (Summary)
Cardiovascular diseases are the most prevalent in the Brazilian adult population and as such, should contribute with important weight in the concession reason for benefits in disability. OBJECTIVE: Analyze and discuss the participation of the arterial hypertension and cardiovascular diseases as retirement concession reason for disability. METHODS: Descriptive study, with basis in retirement records secondary data for disability of the National Institute of Social Security. It has as analyses categories Brazil and its regions and the period studied has been from 1998 to 2005. The prevalence estimate was calculated regarding the number of taxpayers and presented the temporal curves. RESULTS: The cardiovascular disease is the main cause for disability retirement (27,2%) in every year of the study and the concessions have increased since 2001 in all regions.CONCLUSIONS: The results show that cardiovascular disease and specifically, the arterial hypertension as the main health problem for the system of social insurance and increases the set of arguments for its prevention
