APPLICATION OF IMAGE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES IN FORWARD LOOKING SYNTHETIC VISION SYSTEM INTEGRITY MONITORS
This thesis illustrates the application of pattern recognition techniques to consistency checking of the stored and sensed data for integrity monitoring of Synthetic Vision Systems (SVS). Consistency checking requires a common domain representation of the data. A shadow region has been proposed as the feature that can enable the representation of the data into a common domain. The data has been converted into binary images with the shadow region being the foreground object. Similarity techniques based on the geometrical properties of the shadow regions have been proposed. In particular geometric properties like area, center of mass and shape moments like Hu moments have been investigated in fusion with template matching technique. This similarity has been used as a criterion to detect horizontal biases in the stored databases.
