Abstract (Summary)
This paper is finishing part of the two-year master programme in Industrial Engineering and Management.Initially there was an inquiry of studying the queue-times that Fläkt Woods uses when they break down internal working orders. These times were assumed to be too generalised and does not apply to the actual value of the queue-times which generates incorrect data and delivery delays. During the work of this paper it has been established that it is not the queue-times that is the biggest problem. The problem is the shop floor control and the lack of manufacturing the right products at the right time. Therefore an analysis of the production planning process was made to bring forward the real problems. The purpose of this paper is to work out a decision basis how Fläkt Woods should plan their production in order to increase the internal and external delivery precision.The result of the analysed times and delivery precisions shows that the actual queue-times in many cases exceeds the planned queue-time. The actual delivery precision is below the target value in all the cases. The identified problems are in the first place that it is too much focus on the next few hours and that there is a sub optimization for the different production groups.A new planning system is suggested where focus is on the coming time periods and what is manufactured in a production group is based on the actual need. This is done by using individual dispatch lists for the different production groups. The dispatch lists is based on the actual need in the following group and there should be a capacity limit in order to reduce the risk of overbooking the production. In the end this system will provide a manufacturing order based on the actual need in the final assembly groups. The work of the production planner will focus on planning the coming production for the final assembly groups. In the future the system might be transferred to the suppliers in order to get the right products at the right time.
